This new branch of Discogs will be dedicated to CD’s, rare cassettes, early-press vinyls and limited edition pieces that would normally be very hard to find.
In an announcement that is sure to delight all diggers and vinyl-heads, the popular website and crowd-sourced inventory is carving out a special section for their most precious pieces. Discogs Exclusives is a server that aims to attract the “the true collector” with their “incredible, one-time only items.”
The impetus for this move came from conversations between collectors, Discogs and the labels they work with. A particular story emerged whereby access to the rarest and most sought-after pieces seemed to be nigh-on impossible, even in the current online marketplace. Discogs wanted to open up this exclusive industry, making rare finds more readily available for collectors who don’t have the benefit of high-profile contacts.
The server offers test-pressings, special editions and warehouse finds that are normally very tough to come by. Stand out examples so far include a cassette box set containing John Carpenter’s full-length albums (only 500 ever printed) and rare pressings of Icky Thump by the White Stripes.
