In a previously unreleased track from 2016 BadBadNotGood collaborate with Little Dragon.
It has been a long two years since BADBADNOTGOOD released the acclaimed album IV. Since then, the jazz outfit from Toronto have been dropping previously unheard tracks here and there from a guest-heavy studio session in 2016. The collaboration with Colin Stetson “Confessions Pt III” came out last year along with “I Don’t Know”, which featured Samiel T. Herring (Future Islands).
For the latest installment, the band have released the track “Tried” via SoundCloud. It features the Swedish electronic group Little Dragon and carries themes of yearning and helplessness whilst at the same time sounding positive and animated. The arrangement: with a sunken, broody bassline, wandering flute notes and distant, echoey drums, forms a softened backdrop for Yukimi Nagano’s intriguing and spirited vocals.
Statements given by both groups reveal a mutual admiration that triggered the collaboration. Whilst they bring different energies, they share a similar vibe, making it an exciting union. Both Little Dragon and BADBADNOTGOOD have expressed a desire to join forces again in the future.
