The American neo-soul singer gets deep and broody for his new track, which is now available on all streaming platforms after featuring on the popular game.
“Unshaken” is a song that seems perfect for Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption series. The game is all about vast plains, frontier mentality, rotten hearts and gritty resolve. As such, the track’s low register and drawn out lyrics fit well, conjuring a sense of adventure and meditation as well as danger.
But now that the game has been out for a while (released in October), fans of D’Angelo are able to sit back and appreciate the song as a stand alone piece of art, without horses and cowboy hats influencing the experience.
It is D’Angelo’s first new track since his 2014 album Black Messiah and his first foray into major video game soundtracks. Before the track was even released, ripped versions appeared on Youtube and garnered millions of views. Listen to the official release here:
