Flying Lotus just released his first song in five years and it looks to be a David Lynch-featured intro track. What a time to be alive.

Are there any better ways of announcing a new album than this? Flamagra, which will be released May 24, was built on a vague premise – the image Flying Lotus had of  “an eternal flame sitting on a hill … some people would go on dates there and some people would burn love letters there.” Then, as the story goes, he heard legendary filmmaker David Lynch talking about fire at a party and the result is this new video: a spoken word track starring Lynch and a band of beast-children.

Though it doesn’t make much sense beyond the conceptual realm, the video has created a serious buzz. Moreover, much of the talk surrounding the album has been rooted firmly in reality. Two tracks, for instance, will appear in tribute to the late Mac Miller: “Find Your Own Way Home” and “Thank U Malcolm.”

It is already clear that Flamagra will include a star-studded cast of contributors, with the likes of Solange, George Clinton, Tierra Whack, Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, Little Dragon and more set to play a part. Fire is coming – watch the first glimpse of it here:
