It's been a while since we got a full-length Four Tet release. Yet, fresh from a weekend at Coachella, the London producer has dropped a slow-burning stand-alone track.

The image used to front “Teenage Birdsong” shows a square shape – a record perhaps – sitting in the middle of a blossoming tree. It’s this tone of serenity and of the suggestion of gentle growth that carries over into the music, transposed through bright electronic swells and playful ascending flute sounds.

Fans of Four Tet are spread far and wide, such is the appeal of the Londoner. Yet they have been kept waiting for a while since his last project. In 2015 he released Morning/Evening and, in 2017, New Energy – an offering that reframed some earlier music. Though the new track hasn’t come with the announcement of a larger release, a recent tweet from the producer signals good things to come, simply stating: “working on the new record.”
