The soulful U.S. singer releases a new song ahead of her upcoming album. With it, she takes us in yet another musical direction. Listen here.
Ahead of her new album, Begin Again, which will be released via Blue Note on April 12, Norah Jones outlines a subtle yet distinct new direction. Her album is made up of recordings that include musicians such as Jeff Tweedy and Thomas Bartlett. The latest instalment for listeners, before the album goes on general release, features Jones, Brian Blade (drums), Christopher Thomas (bass), Leon Michels (saxophone) and Dave Guy (trumpet).
The title of her new track “Just a Little Bit” reflects the pacing and mood of its sound. A pensive bass plays with two recurring notes alongside a controlled, crisp snare and an array of accompanying instrumentals. With an arrangement strangely reminiscent of U.K. band Elbow, we hear trickling piano, soft horns and Jones’ voice that builds in a sultry and sincere arc. The sound is stripped-back, laying bare the lyrics that tell of failed as well as burgeoning romance. Listen below:
