The film follows the singer, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on his comeback tour. It will be screened at the festival in New York, beginning April 29.

Known as Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo, the documentary will provide an exclusive look at the life of a musician who has often avoided the limelight. It was directed by the award-winning Dutch photographer and filmmaker Carine Bijlsma, and will be shown at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival alongside the very best in recent film and documentary. Some of the non-fiction topics covered at the festival will include an examination of the relationship between rap and fashion, a look at Woodstock and a piece on INXS’ Michael Hutchence.

D’Angelo has already released a track called “Unshaken” since the start of 2019, forming part of the soundtrack for the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game. His fans eagerly await a new full-length project, but news has been few and far between as to when that will arrive. Head over to the Tribeca Film Festival website for more details about the programming.
