The UK genre-defying group, Nubiyan Twist, release a track-and-video teaser ahead of their February 15 album Jungle Run.
As one of the most exciting acts to come out of the UK scene, Nubiyan Twist have consistently refused to be pigeonholed. Their sound encompasses jazz, soul, hip-hop, dub, afrobeat, latin … you name it. Since their formation at the Leeds College of Music, the ten-piece have established a firm place as part of the new generation of soulful genre-bending artists.
They are a blend of virtuosic young musicians comprised of four horns, two vocalists and a large multicultural rhythm section. Their debut album Nubiyan Twist was released to widespread acclaim in 2015 and since then, their reputation has risen at home and abroad.
Ahead of their next LP, Jungle Run (to be released on February 15), the band have delivered “Tell It To Me Slowly.” It features the band’s saxophonist, Nick Richards, singing the verses while Nubiya Brandon’s distinctive vocals come in on the chorus alongside punchy horns. Underneath, electronic timbres and manic percussion propel the track forward. The video is shot in crisp black and white and flicks between concert venues, recording spaces and the city streets outside.
Catch them at Le Trianon venue in Paris as part of the Au Fils Des Voix Festival on February 16.
