The three-time Grammy-winning group will release their upcoming album Immigrance on March 15 on GroundUP music.

It has been a long couple of years since the jazz and funk collective’s latest album, Culcha Vulcha, and the buzz around their upcoming project will continue to build until its March 15 release date.

Immigrance is a studio album, like its predecessor, and it will feature most of the same musicians. It was produced by Michael League, the group’s bassist-composer, who was one of their founding members back in 2003. A statement on Snarky Puppy’s website suggests that the sound of Immigrance, compared to previous work, takes on a moodier tone, whilst retaining the “ace musicianship and dynamic, kinetic spirit” they are known for.

But readers will be quick to see the political undertones of the album’s title. Immigrance shoots right to the heart of continually divisive topics in the U.S. and further afield. But Snarky Puppy have a unique stance: they’re a collective made up of many musicians from varied backgrounds. Immigrance was inspired by their travels and their multicultural spirit. As League suggests: “the band itself is a representation of what we’re trying to express musically.”

“Xavi,” first single from the new album, is available to listen to below:

Snarky Puppy will host the upcoming edition of the GroundUP Music Festival (February 8-10)

They will begin a full tour in April. Tickets and showtimes to be announced.
