London comes to Paris for three nights of unmissable live performances. Expect heady rhythms, boundless groove and bold cross-cultural compositions from a generation that never seems to run out of steam.
In April 2019 La Petite Halle and the New Morning will play host to the third and final instalment of London Jazz Calling, a celebration of the “bright-burning” London jazz scene that seems intent of re-writing the rulebook. They promise shows that are full of bouncing energy, ones where a blend of West-African rhythms, Caribbean accents and straight-ahead jazz gives the audience the chance to experience free-flowing, expressive and characterful sounds in a raw and vibrant atmosphere.
The Paris-based GiantSteps programmers didn’t plan on continuing the event beyond the first year, but the energy emanating from London has been too rich to ignore. To that end, a cross-section of the scene has been selected to orchestrate an explosive finale to a three-year adventure. The warbling bass of Theon Cross’ tuba can be experienced first hand along with the infectious groove of Maisha, the sumptuous melodies of Kokoroko and the prolific Neue Grafik ensemble. The line up also includes such talents as Skinny Pelembe, Peluché and Leifur James.
