The virtuoso electric bassist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Marcus Miller embraces a sweeping vision of contemporary jazz on Laid Black, a winning example of his expansive talents. Employing his ace band and a host of supportive guests including the Belgian singer Selah Sue (who brings new life to “Que Sera Sera”), the saxophonist Kirk Whalum, the vocal unit Take 6 and the New Orleans sensation Trombone Shorty (catch his dazzling turn on “7-T’s”), Miller fashions music that effortlessly unites classic and modern R&B, jazz and pop.

Although most famous in jazz circles for his work with Miles Davis (Miller was the mastermind behind the acclaimed 1986 Davis album “Tutu”), Miller has long had his hand in a host of music circles and his ease at successfully mingling genres exhibits itself throughout. One of the great players on his primary instrument, Miller also makes sure to leave plenty of room to display his extravagant skills.
