Following the release of their album, Duologue, the pair have shared a vibrant and jubilant new video for their track "Africa."
The Quincy Jones-produced album contains several songs that are sure to catch listeners’ attention just by their titles. “Super Mario Bros 3,” “Thriller,” “Cosas del Amor” and “Africa,” with the latter being recently coupled with some bright and confident visuals.
Both artists are known to draw inspiration from West African-rooted rhythms in devising their intricate and expressive Afro-Cuban sounds. “Africa,” then, is part homage and part demonstration of some of that sphere of influence. After a few seconds of crisp hand-claps and infectious vocals, the piano and the percussion fall in, doubling up on the same rhythm before dynamically detaching and reconnecting their melodies going forward.
The official video pictures Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez in the studio, on clifftops and on sandy shores. The track is propelled by the duo’s tight groove while Martinez’ vocals riff ecstatically on top. The final shot of the video pictures the pair clasping hands, their differing skin colors acting as a powerful and open-ended symbol while the sun sets in the background.
