Ahead of his new album, Flamagra, Flying Lotus has teamed up with Anderson .Paak to deliver "More" – an out-of-body trip that packs a visual punch.
Lotus crash lands on an distant planet. He exits the wrecked space shuttle and walks across the red barren terrain. In the distance stands a retro robot, looking defunct behind a desk that reads “your ego is your seed.” The machine rattles to life, Anderson .Paak’s flow spewing from a record stamped to its chest. Looking on, Lotus’ character animation begins to sweat, his eye-balls bulge, and black matter starts seething through his body, exploding into a leaf-less tree made of internal organs.
It’s the second disarming visual released ahead of Flamagra, after a clip featuring David Lynch dropped last month. Aside from .Paak, the new album will feature artists such as Solange, George Clinton, Tierra Whack, Thundercat, Little Dragon. There will also be two tracks in tribute to the late Mac Millar, as well as a fully 3D tour of the US.
The video was directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, the man behind “Cowboy Bebop,” among many others, as well as the anime short film Blade Runner Black Out 2022, which also featured Flying Lotus as a collaborator. The full album will come out on May 24. Watch the video for “More” below:
